Default 1997 Cub Car DS speed

Hello Everyone. I just picked up a nice '97 48v Club Car from a friend. Mechanically everything is stock. Has some custom wheels and paint. New 8v batteries within 6 months. I'm stepping it up and putting lights and things on it. I also want to step up the speed some. With some research I found it looks like I would need to change the speed sensor box. But I'm not sure what to get or where the best place to look for one. I've seen them range from $250 to $500. I don't want to break the bank but want something noticeably different. So whats the best thing to do, get, and where to get it. Oh yeah and I need to do this all within a week and a half!! Thanks for any input and if I need to give more info just ask.

Jim

Welcome to BGW!

Not experienced with this on the 48v carts myself, but there'll be others along presently with loads of knowledge on increasing your cart's speed.

Is your forward/reverse a mechanical lever or a toggle switch?

Since you have a mechanical lever that tells us you have a "series" cart. Upgrading the speed controller will not get you more speed, it will add torque though. Your options of increasing speed is as follows from cheapest to most expensive.

1) Replace 48v motor with an older 36v motor, this will net 30% gain in speed and torque.

2) Increase tire size, speed will increase but will loose torque.

3) Change gear ratio, speed will increase but will also loose torque.

4) Install high speed motor, aftermarket or used factory (hard to find).

30% is right what I wanted. Nothing crazy just a bit more. What do you mean an older motor? A 36v from the same age range? I had seen alot of threads with saying Plum Quick site was to the place to get a motor. I don't mind spending a couple hundred just didn't want to go to the five hundred range....

The 36v club car motors were in the older carts. If you can find one that will be your cheapest way to speed. They are getting hard to find. Check the for sale section. Cost a lot to ship also. You can always call plum quik and see what they say, that's free.
