Default lights stay on

I installed lights on my g1 and they worked fine for a year. Today I found the headlights on and the switch would not turn them off. I disconnected the switch and they were still on. Once I disconnected the wire to the battery they went out. Any thoughts.
Thank you,
Bill

try and brand new switch or take a volt meter and put a probe on each end of the switch and take a reading with it off and then turn the switch on and take a reading. if the readings are different, the switch works. I was confused when you said you disconnected the switch. if you took the switch off and still touched the two wires together, that would be just like having the switch be on.

Thank you,
I disconnected the switch and didn't touch the wires together and the lights stayed on. Sorry for the confusion.

. . . when you wired the switch initially, did you use it to break the + or - side of the circuit?

Good morning Steve,
The switch was part of a wiring harness which came in the box with the lights I purchased. The lights included front rear and signal.
Thanks
Bill

. . . just realized you have a Yamaha cart . . . you may want to post this in that forum . . . maybe a member there has had similar issue . . . my guess is somewhere in the harness, you are shorting out, causing a complete circuit . . .
