Ike got my cart

I'd like to thank all you that helped me with my previous post. (*http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...-charging.html) I had bought a hydrometer and was going to check the batteries, then work got in the way, and then Ike got my Cart -1998 Club Car 36 volt.

Let me tell you the story - I have a small weekend house on the west end of galveston Island. The good news is we think the house is still there. They have just announced that we can go onto the island and assess damage - "look and leave". If i can find my cart, it will have benn submerged in salt water, and tossed around. I'm not sure if my insurance will cover it

So here is the question - is there any chance of saving it? If I find it I won't be able to get it out, so is there anything I could do to minimize deterioration? There is no water or power down there so wont' be able to clean it, and will have to leave it there.

Frankly I got bigger things to deal with than the cart - but would sure appreciate any suggestions - I'll post some pictures if I can after I get to see it.

In the grand scheme of things life is still good. Still got my family, health, and job. I'm in lots better shape than some of the folks down there.

also glad to hear all is well...........as for the cart the biggest things will be the controller and batteries............as this point if it was under water the controller may be behond hope as for batteries it all depends on how water tight those caps were theres a slight chance they might be ok just a slight chance...........................................8 )

other than salt water being so corrosive, and conductive, even the controller may survive it once dried out. Just don't try to switch anything ON while things are still damp, leave it to dry out as long as possible. I'd worry about the motor being corroded, electrical damage from corrosion/short circuits (shouldn't be any problem with short circuit if the controller has no power to it until key is on, etc.), and of course the diff may be full of water, so you'll need to drain that, and freshen up the fluids. Washing things off as best you can with clean water would be good if possible, but if there is no running water, electricity, etc., it might be difficult to do. Once you do get time, pull the controller and electric components apart, and clean everything with electrical contact cleaner or a spray flux remover, which you can safely spray over entire circuit boards, and let dry. Clean and lube all moving parts, and electric contacts, and you might be surprised by the end results.

You'd be surprised how well electronics can hold up to water, although salt water is definitely not quite the same.

Good Luck, and if nothing else, be glad you and your family are ok! A cart is a cart is a cart, but your health and the health of your family is MOST important! Insurance would probably cover a cart if it's among other items claimed. Whether it is worth claiming or not is entirely up to you.

Sorry to hear about your cart. But glad to hear that you and your family are alright. Material things come and go but people can not be replaced. Hug them tight and count your blessings.

Sorry to hear that about your weekend place. Now as far as the insurance it may be covered under homeowners if it is a non-titled vehicle, The same as a utility trailer, my homeowners has this clause in it, it would replace with new as I have the added replacement value on the policy as it is only about $75.00 more a year. Read your policy carfully THEN contact your insurance agent, remember the isurance industry LOVES to collect payment but HATE to pay claims.

Hey guys - thanks for all the kind words. They changed their minds on letting us down on island - so no idea when we can get down there. Your definitely right - I can replace the material things but not the family and for that I am blessed

So now maybe to get my mind off of things, I am thinking that if I could salvage the frame, and steering, and maybe some other components, what kind of hot rod cart could i make out of whats left...

Let me know if you have any ideas - I'll keep you posted on how it goes

The rear end----- flush with diesel fuel immediately.. then put more 30 weight oil with lucas stabilizer in it..

wash everything else off well...

motor should be taken apart and washed..
