Default Which stock motor is better..

In my search for some extra parts for my 1994 ds 36v club car. I found a deal that was hard to pass up. A guy was selling a whole cart from 1992 for $150 since he was moving and wanted it off his property. I went over and of course it didn't have batteries but everything else minus the roof was still in tack. Body was in good shape. So long story short I got the whole thing for $100 and on my truck. After looking it over I noticed the motor on it is slight different part number than my stock. After doing research I got some specs on both motors. It looks like the motor in the old cart is slight higher Hp and rpm. Would this be worth swapping into my cart for more speed and maybe something else. Just to hold me over till i can afford an upgrade to 48v or PQ bandit motor. My cart has 22 inch wheels and 6" lift plus back seat. Wondering if the extra 1/2 Hp would help any thing. I will test motor before I take it off old cart.

Here are specs:
(1992 Stock cart , no batteries )
5BC48JB771
2.5HP, 3300RPM, 36V

(My 1994 Cart with cosmetic upgrades
5BC48JB764
2HP; 2800RPM 36v

If anything Perhaps the motor off the old cart would be a good candidate to send into PQ to get rebuilt for a high speed one. It can use a face lift since its kinda rusty and all.

It's a half horsepower stronger, so I would put it in your cart and see what happens.
Do you have any pics of the $100 cart?

Yeah I can post a pic. The rpms are higher on the 2.5 Hp motor too. But I read a couple post here that high rpm equals more speed but less torque. With bigger wheels i would think id need more torqe to move faster. Does that mean my 2hp@2800 has more torque and better for me than 2.5@3300 ??
Wonder how hard its gonna be to take off the rusty motors to swap.

I really don't know much about horsepowers and RPMs, hopefully someone who does will chime in.
I myself have never removed or installed a motor on a cart, but I have heard that its not that difficult. Just remove bolts, pull off and put the other one on.

The extra 1/2 horse will make up the difference for the torque loss. you will gain about 2 or 3MPH with the bigger motor, maybe more. I know a lot of people have had trouble removing motors. I must have been very lucky. I have removed and replaced many motors and most have come off without much trouble at all. Never (as yet) had one stick to the point of not wanting to come off. Caution when removing motors. When they come off the spline they will be very heavy and surprise you and you can smash fingers. I always have gloves on just in case....helps a little!!

Thanks guys I just might give the swap a try providing the clunker motor still has life left. Would this 2.5hp club car motor be considered a high speed stock motor? I recall I was looking once at a 1989 club car and guy said it has "the high speed motor" in it. It felt maybe slightly peppier then the 94 I ended up buying due to nicer condition.

I'm thinking going the bandit route on one if these motors. What does it cost to ship one of these motors these days? Was it all worth it?
