Default Battery Meter, Speed Increase

Hi all. New to this forum and it has already been an invaluable tool.
Just purchased a used 2001 Club Car DS (36V).

Previous owner had done some good work on the cart:
Less than two year old batteries, Lester battery charger, High speed motor upgrade, Rear flip down seat, Allsports lift kit, Heavy duty rear leaf springs
Heavy duty 4 gauge wiring upgrade, Front cargo basket, Head lights, GTW rims and Maxxis 23X10.50X12, Yellow/gold paint job

Cart rides great, I just have a couple of questions:
1. He told me he turned down the speed on the motor. It is a GE motor Model #5BC58JBS6334. I was wondering if it is possible to turn it back up. Not really sure what he meant, was hoping for some clarity on this.

2. I have been really reading up on how to keep the batteries running for as long as possible (great info here btw). So I am going to buy a battery meter and it looks like everybody on here recommends the Scotty B's battery meter. Is that the best or are there others just as good? Is mounting that meter a pretty easy task?

Again, thanks for all the great info as I am sure I will make this one of my most visited sites.

Welcome to the forum! You could not have come to a better place.
Is your cart a resistor cart? CC never made a 36v controller cart from the factory. Yours could have been modified at one time.
Only IQ carts can be speed programmed, so I'm not sure how he would have turned down the speed.
And yes, Scotty's meter is by far the best meter out there, and very easy to install.

it does sound as the previous owner put in upgraded system .. i'd give him a call and ask him how to speed motor back up as he is the one who slowed it down

ScottyB's meters have a very good reputation on this site & i hear he supply's good instructions and has great customer support for all he sells ... with that said there are other meters out there and you get what you pay for

My 93 was a factory 36 volt controller cart. I've got two other stock 93 CCs that are controller carts, and the small course I used to work for had a fleet of about 15 of them. They've got Vglides and Curtis 275 amp controllers stock. This still sounds like a custom setup though, because other than adjusting the Vglide to not go all the way up there's no way to turn down speed on these.

My 94 was 36V with a controller.

Yes, you guys are right. The very first Controller carts from CC were indeed 36v from 1991 to 94. Then in 95 all controller carts became 48v. However they continued to produce 36v fleet carts with resistor coil drive systems through 2002

The resister coil carts are not good candidates for upgrade motors as the additional amperage draw creates heat which may burn up the Vglide, F&R, coils, etc. Solid state conversion kits are available for these carts. They can be run on 48v and will run circles around a stock 48v series cart.

Ok guys, it was late last night...
Had a mix up up. Is it true that ezgo has never made a 48v controller? Maybe that's what I was thinking.

WOW!! Where to start...
First I will be buying a Scotty B meter...that was easy.
My second question seems to have opened a can of worms.
So what is a controller cart? I am new to this and dont really know the terminology...It is definitely a 36 v (3 water holes per battery and a 36 V charger)...The previous owner showed me a big spring/coil by the motor and said that it can get really hot when run for a long time (even glow red if I remember correct). I think I will have more questions but lets start there.
