4 ga battery cable swap...what kit is better?
I came across 2 different kits for the 6-8 volt battery set up. Which is the better one to buy? Are they just the same but different lengths? To change over to 4 ga, all I need are these 5 cables? If y'all don't recommend these, what do you recommend with comparable prices?
Thanks http://www.ebay.com/itm/190824599613...84.m1423.l2649 http://www.ebay.com/itm/111116479027...84.m1423.l2649 |

you get what you pay for, I would not put those cables on an ezgo
don't be cheap with cables, there are a couple of site sponsors that can take care of you for battery cables |

These are not a complete setup for six eight volt batteries. What about the cables that go to the motor, and controller. I'm no expert but you would be better off keeping what you have than to use these. Scotty B sells a great setup or you can make your own with good quality welding cable. I made mine for less than forty dollars in materials. My labor is worth two hundred an hour.

I read a few sites that it can be done using welding cable and zinc coated terminals. Also saw where solder pellets were used on some connections.

Scotty B's 4 ga. wire set for the 6 8 volt battery setup has 13 wires in the set IIRC. His is a quality built set of wires and he provides excellent customer service.

No offense, not starting anything here but Scotty's price compared to this price... Well I'm a cheapo and want to get the best price I can I guess. Scotty I'm sure has great quality cables.

Re: 4 ga battery cable swap...what kit is better?
I bought a roll of 4 ga welding cable from a local welding supply. I bought the 4 ga 5/16 eyelets from local auto parts store. Used propane torch to heat eyelets set in vice with cable side up. Fill cable hole with solder insert cable into hot solder, allow a few seconds to cool. Slid heat shrink over end. Cut length from old cables as guide. Some may need to be longer or shorter, be sure you can remove fill caps to service batteries. If you can find it use different color heat shrink red, black. I held the neg that goes through obc with pliers to do the one end that conects to battery. On the cables going to motor and controller I used spray paint to make them the correct color. I am happy with the way they turned out. Be sure to put in tow before doing anything with batteries. I tested the end on an old piece of cable, I could not pull it off no mater how hard I pulled with one end in vice.

Re: 4 ga battery cable swap...what kit is better?
I use "Exelene" high strand count welding cable (on any thing that is high-performance). I always crimp my cable ends with a "cable anvil" (hammer operated terminal smasher, for lack of a better term). Then apply a little flux to the exposed copper strands. Then heat with a propane torch and apply solder until solder covers the "open" end of the wire, And some solder flows through to the other side of the terminals. While it is still hot (not molten hot) clean the connection to remove all flux. when done, i heat-shrink the ends to seal it up. i always cover the entire "open" end of the strands to ensure that acid cant wick up into the wire. Some people may have differing opinions on my methods, but they have served me well. In my opinion, my cables are nicer than most HD cable sets. Im sure there are better cables available, but i do take pride in doing a nice job. I am not trying to sell any cables (or put anyones cables down), i am just telling you how i would do it.
