Radio fequency interfearence
I have a 2008 Club Car DS with aluminum frame. I installed a Sony marine type stereo, ran wires to one battery and installed an external antenna. When I press go I get interfearence loud enough that it's hard to hear the radio. Running the car wide open, coasting, or sitting still the reception is fine. I then insatlled a battery dedicated to the radio hoping that being off the cart's system would help, but no. I hope someone has ideas. Thanks

Re: Radio fequency interfearence
Make sure both the radio and the antenna are electrically isolated from the carts frame and body.

Re: Radio fequency interfearence
I have the same problem and have tried everything, separated power wires added monster speaker wires. It is picking up something from the motor or controller. I just use a I Pod.
I installed a radio in a ez go and had no noise. Good luck |

Re: Radio fequency interfearence
It's because it's a SepEx car...... I've noticed that series cars have very little to no interference. The old Regen2 cars are so bad it interferes with the radio in our shop at work when we drive them in from outside.

Re: Radio fequency interfearence
Wow! Do they produce a radio frequency signal? Like you said, the series carts ( like mine ) are better, but mine improved greatly by isolating the radio and antenna. It may not help the OP's problem, though.

Re: Radio fequency interfearence
My series EZ-Go w/Alltrax controller and custom PQ motor plays havoc with my radio reception. I listen to the iPod anyway, so no solution was ever attempted. It was bad with the OEM motor too, but it got worse with the upgraded motor.

Re: Radio fequency interfearence
I guess every cart and/or installation is different. We don't see much interference from series cars.

Re: Radio fequency interfearence
GeeJay is a friend of mine & we put the radio in. Can not understand why we still have static. Another thing, why can he have a portable radio sitting in sit beside him with no static? It's driving us crazy.
Please help! Here a pic of his cart. |

Re: Radio fequency interfearence
Don't want to appear dumb, but how does one go about this isolation project. The radio is in a dash under mount on a fibre dash so is not in contact with the frame or body. I do have the antenna ty-raped to a roof support which is aluminum. What do ya think?

Re: Radio fequency interfearence
Since your friend said the problem does not occur on a radio on close proximity, the noise is most likely in the power lines.
You can verify that if the radio has a CD on AUX input, if the noise is there on those inputs, it is definitely coming from the power line. If you are using an inexpensive DC-DC voltage converter, it could be amplifying the noise from the controller PWM pulses or the motor brushes arcing. You can try an inductor/capacitor filter on the power lead to the radio, like this one: |
