Default 4-12volt vs. 6-8volt batteries

my '07 club car is a 4-12 system. Do you really gain that much run time by converting to a 6-8 system?

Not only that, but your pack life should be longer, the 12 volt batteries just dont seem to last as long, no matter how well you take care of them.
