Default need help figuring out voltage

I have a 1984 club car ds. it had no batteries in it when I got it. the old man told me it was a 48v. I since have been told they didn't make a 48v in 84 and the charger that he gave me was a 36volt ezgo charger with the cord end changed to fit club car. the cables work out to take 6 batteries but I don't know if they would be 8v or 6v. I don't want to spend the money on the wrong batteries so I need a little help. thanks.

36volt for sure...none of the big 3 (CC, EZGO, YAMAHA) was making 48v golfcarts then.

1984 carts were 36 volt, unless someone changed something. Maybe check the label/tag on the motor for voltage info, if it has a label/tag? Certainly if the charger is 36 volt, you would buy 6 volt batteries, but check the motor tag for verification, if it's there.
