melting vglide wiper arms

I have a 95 36 volt club car resistor car that had a bad vglide replaced it last week and the customer brings it back with the same issue a melted vglide
the car worked perfectly until it melted. any ideas on why it melted the arm so quickly.

HEAT is the one word answer, but I'm guessing you already knew that much.

This seems to be a common problem among the Vglide resistor carts, the thing just gets too hot and melts. As Scottyb says, the things are designed for golf, go a few hundred feet and stop, then do it again. Continuous use makes a lot of heat that wasn't accounted for in the design. Do you know how the cart is used, it it's on hilly terrain or if maybe the owner creeps around on it a lot, causing a lot of heat build up?

I know all you stated is true but its been working fine for the customer for about 8 or 9 years and then starts this the one that was put on last week didnt last but a couple of days

I'm no expert on motors, but maybe the motor is getting weak and drawing a lot of extra juice, therefore causing more heat??? This has been a problem on this type of cart that I have seen on here before. Other than bad connections or maybe some of the coils being messed up, this seems to be the only other thing I can think of. Not a whole lot else to go wrong on this type of cart. My guess is a weak motor drawing extra juice, causing the Vglide to melt. The motor going would also explain why it didn't do it for years but now all of a sudden does. I know someone else on here had this issue recently, maybe they'll chime in...

Perhaps one of the connections is yielding a dead short instead of some resistance, making your vglide into a fuse. Could one of the insulators on a resistor coil have failed?

Check the spring tension on the wiper arm

Spring tension, AND proper flat alignment. I always ensure the terminals (moving and stationary) are smooth. I draw all over the stationary terminals with a black marker, then move the arm back and forth with the external lever to see that the marker ink is wearing off evenly across the entire terminal top to botton on all terminals. Once that is done, wipe the ink off with a rag & brakeclean. This will demonstrate flat, even contact on all terminals.

Ok I found the blue and black cables coming from the resistor asse, were melted and shorted together. Will that cause my problems. I thinks it is creating a short.

probly not, it will just give you a shorted, burnt wire smell
