Exclamation Extra Volts?

I read another thread that talked about a 36volt motor running 102volts or something sick like that thru a "boost by pass" button system. Can 48 volt motors take more then 48 volts as well? Has anyone put more then 48 to a 48? Obviously not for extended amounts of time........BUT!?????? Input? As always THANKS!

I think the guys running 72 volts all the time over in Extreme DC run 48 volt motors, but I'm not sure... Should handle the extra load just like a 36 volt would as long as it's series...

no problems, just like a 36 volt motor in a 48 volt system, or a 48 volt motor in a 72 volt system

remember, more volts = more speed

Thanks Scott. As I said I am not looking for a LOT more but a little something. Do you think an extra 12 will make a difference or only if I go all the way with 24?

I would like to disagree here . You can not run a 36 VDC motor on a 102 battery pack safely unless it is a class H motor.

Keep in mind that armatures do come apart at speeds excessively above their intended rpm, i have seen several. And GENERALY SPEAKING, a series motors rpm increases proportionally with its voltage. A locked up motor can result in locked up rear wheels and other fun crashes. Im not saying dont try it, im only saying do consider the risks to your equipment or yourself.

If you are running 36v and you add 12v = 48v (33% more volts = 33% more rpm). If you are running 48v and you add 12v = 60v (25% more volts and 25% more rpms)

Storm, although already mentioned make sure that you are talking about a Series wound motor not a Sepex/Regen type.

Don't you have to worry about too much voltage to the controller?
