Default 93 ds brake shoe installation/adjustment

I just installed new brake shoes and new brake drums on a 93 ds.

Before I installed them, I loosened the the nuts at the cable junction.

After I got everything installed, in order to get the new drums over the new shoes, I had to take a wrench and crank that square adjustment screw ( on the top), all the way in until it stopped. Once it was all the way in ( the square screw), I was able to get the drums on.

After I got the drums on, I tightened the cable junction up, so there is 6" from floor to pedal. Then I drove and slammed the brakes on a few times to try and adjust things. This is the only thing I did to adjust.

My question is, do I still need to try adjusting anything, or am I finished?

The cart stops, but I would think the brakes should fells better than they do.

Am I suppose to move the square adjusting screws, or just leave them all the way in?

I am not clear on what I need to do, to finish this project.

I have service manuals, but don't see an answer to my questions.

Please help!

Thanks

93 brakes are not self adjusting. On the back of the brake plate is a rubber boot.Remove that boot and turn that adjuster equally on both sides with the cart on the ground. When the pedel s where you want it and paek brake locks your done.

So I do not jack up the cart, remove the rubber boot that is located on the backside of brake plate, at the bottom?
Now, is the parking brake on or off when I turn the adjusters?

When turning, are you saying turn them until I feel the pedal is where I want it to be, or is there some other way to gauge this?

Do I need to turn the top square screws at all, since I have already cranked them all the way in?

Ok, it is in the manual. The half inch nuts you loosened under the cart put those back about where they were.Focus on adjusting the shoes.doing a brake job on that cart you adjust the square nut counterclockwise until it stops. After the shoes are replaced put the drums on and what I do is put wheels on and turn that square nut in x amount of times equaly on both sides and check pedal play.Continue adjusting until you have proper pedal and park brake locks.

ok, I will try that.So based on that info, then I do not have to touch the previously mentioned rubber boots?

Reread my post. You adjust your brakes by removing the rubber boot and turn clockwise.

Tom
I think I understand you. When you say rubber boots, are they the rubber part that covers the square screws, located at the top of the brake shoe plates? Not the oval shaped rubber piece located at the bottom of the brake shoe plate?

And when you say to turn the screw counterclockwise, does that mean if I am sitting on the ground, facing the wheel, then turn to the left? Same on from both sides of cart , facing the wheel, turn left?
