Default '95 48 volt club car, jumps then stops

Hey guys. New to the site and looking for help with a ’95 48 volt Club Car.

I bought an old cart 2 years ago. When I bought it the batteries were near used up. Got two years out of them before I decided to change them out. Just replaced the batteries. Occasionally, even before the batteries were changed, when you hit the accelerator pedal the cart jumps a little then it won’t move. I think the solenoid is clicking but it is hard to tell. It got worse it seems lately. I have tried flipping the FNR switch back and forth and sometimes it will kick in and move. But if you let off any while moving it may not go again. After reading thru this site, I think it may be one of four things, FNR switch (doubtful), or the controller, or maybe the VGlide, or most likely the motor brushes need changed or replace the motor altogether. I can test just about anything, but I'm not sure exactly how to change the brushes in a motor.

It sounds like someone may have had this problem before...I hope!

Any suggestions?? Thanks in advance.

Might also be the solenoid dropping out, I had one do the exact same thing you are describing this past summer, and I swore it was the controller. Just for fun one time when it wouldn't go, I knelt in the floorboard on the passenger side with the seat off, pressed on the go pedal with it in forward, and reached back with a wrench and smacked the side of the solenoid. It took off running every time I tried it, so I got a new solenoid and I haven't had the problem since.

By the way, Welcome to BGW!!

Solenoids go with out notice. I agree with '93' I would test the solenoid before anything. You could also take all the wires from both lugs and put them together on one lug and then safely step on the pedal and see if the cart moves.

My cart did this after I replaced all of the battery cables and upgraded from a resistor to a controller. Ended up being either a bit of dirt in the new FnR, or the battery cables that rotate on the switch needed to be re-routed so they didn't apply any twist or torque the terminals sideways. After correcting both it's been smooth sailing!

When it happened I could almost always get it going again by exercising the FnR switch.
