2002 48V DS Will Not Move
I recently purchased a 2002 DS 48 volt cart that had been setting for three years. New cables, filled the batteries with distilled water, jumped the charger to bypass the OBC, charged for 24 hours. Magic happened and the cart ran. 49.9 volts across the pack 8.19 to 8.39 individually.
Rode about two miles every night for two weeks. Thursday night tried a hill and it did not want to climb. Sounded like wheel hop or something slipping. Babied it back home. Last night the cart would not move. Same noise in both forward and reverse. 48.17 across the pack 5 batteries 8.16 to8.35. One 7.14. Could the noise be some sort of low voltage shutter? It seems that 48.17 across the pack would make it move. Could the old batteries just not have any ampacity? Any help would be appreciated. |

You are correct to suspect the batteries, attach a voltmeter to the low one and try to go, see what it drops to. Just might be your problem right now.

Checked the voltage of the one los battery this morning. 6.24. 48.7 across the pack. Checked the voltage of the low battery when trying to move in forward and reverse. Actually rose to 7.14. Checked the voltage across the pack when trying to move. Dropped to 34. I suspect this is not enough to move the cart. Bad battery is probably robbing voltage from the rest of them.

Do yourself a favor and replace all batteries. They are most likely all the same age and it would be foolish to replace one or two. When the batteries in a 48 volt Club Car get bad, they will create a bucking effect when you try to accelerate.

Is this cart a series or sepex? check serial number to make sure, AQ is sepex, just A is series. A series will shudder with low voltage, a sepex will just slow down. Either way, your batteries sound like they need replaced.

The cart is a series. Dug out my battery load tester form the early 1990's. Load tested the suspect battery. Voltage dropped to 0 under load. Tested the remainder. Voltage dropped to just above 7. Replaced the bad battery with a know good one. Cart ran fine. Time to get a new set of batteries.
