Default Step by step

Anybody have a step by step for dummies on how you go about testing a potentiometer to make sure I'm getting the most out of it. Ultimately I want a little more speed and I understand the potentiometer has something to do with that. 96 club car ds 48v

Potentiometer will not give you "more" speed. Unless it is adjusted wrong and slowing the cart down by not working correctly. If it is working correctly currently then you can not "adjust" more out of it. You can test your throttle wire with an ohm meter and find about 5k at full pedal if it is working correct. If you see something like 3k then it is not working correct.

On my first cart, my potentiometer was actually out of adjustment and costing me about 9 mph.
There are two screws that hold the water cover on. Remove them and you will see a rod with a rheostat lever on it. You can loosen the nut (it is small) and then turn the rod. When I adjusted mine, I didn't even use my meter. I would just adjust it, jump on the cart for a test drive, then readjust. I did this probably 10 times before I got the right throttle. If you turn it too far one way, it will start moving right when you put in in Forward. Adjust it too far the other way and it will not give you 100% speed. It's basically self explanatory once you get that cover off.
The pot boxes were only used a couple of years by CC, due to the fact that they failed because they were not watertight. Ideally, you would get an MCOR conversion kit, which CC uses today. Basically an MCOR is a sealed, unadjustable pot box.
Hope this helps...
