Unless the filter is installed directly at the house, I would have the water tested. Actually even then I would have the water tested!

I have been dealing with well water for close to 30 years and can tell you first hand that the home filters don't always catch everything. I have been fighting Kidney stones for years because of the calcium in my water, and yes I do have a top of the line filtration system in my house. Even though I haven't drank the well water in years because of the calcium in it, the damage was already done. I passed a 6mm (yes 6 MM! ) kidney stone just recently actually.

When I first moved here and didn't know any better, I used the well water to fill my batteries just like I used to do with the city water where I used to live. I killed a couple of older batteries that way and figured out what was happening once I had my water tested while my doctor and I was trying to figure out why I was getting kidney stones. The well water was calcifying the plates in the battery.

I hope this helps with understanding why well water is bad for batteries,

Most municipal water supplies also have large amounts of calcium added to them to buffer the PH of the water to 8.

Considering the small amount of water a battery pack uses, I can't imagine not using the cleanest I can find.

Our well has a lot of iron in it, even after running through the filter system.

Couldn't imagine that would be good at all in a battery either.
