Is it OK to chassis ground my led light bar with separate battery?
I have a 21" led light bar that I will be using out in the field. Rather than wire it into one or two of my cart's batteries, I decided to buy a smaller motorcycle/atv battery for power.
Can I chassis ground this battery and light on this electric cart? If so, it would be to the front left upright holding up my roof. Or should I just tie in to one of the drive motor's batteries? |

Do NOT ground to the chassis. Ground back to you auxiliary battery. Or you can run the 12v battery to a fuse block and have your ground and 12v power in one place.
Good luck! |

OK, thanks for the fast reply.
I did not think it sounded like a great idea. That is why I asked first. So auxiliary battery is the way to go, huh? |

Re: Is it OK to chassis ground my led light bar with separate battery?
You can get a voltage converter to do this, also. I'll put up a link to one. You can use your separate battery too, it's strictly your choice. You don't want to use the carts batteries without a converter as the one (or two if they're 8V) will discharge more than the others and when you use the charger the ones running the lights won't get a full charge and the others will overcharge. The charger only sees a total pack voltage, not individual battery voltages.

Re: Is it OK to chassis ground my led light bar with separate battery?
I already bought a 7th battery, so I don't really need another item to throw in my glove box. So I just wired it up through the dash, through a switch and 10A fuse, and wired it all up in a separate circuit.
It works. Not very bright, though. Maybe at dark night, it would be brighter, but at dusk, it wasn't very bright at all. Bright enough to get me where I want to go, but not blinding bright like I was expecting. Here is what I bought...maybe a weenie light? Or maybe led lights just are not all that bright... It the 7th battery you're using another 8v battery or 12v?

12 v motorcycle/ATV battery.
Hmmm. From this angle, looks like my front wheels are out of alignment... |

My wheels are a bit like that too. Are they easy to align?

Not sure. I assume pulling in the toe on that left wheel would be easy. Not sure about the camber...
