Default Resistor coil differance?

While cleaning up stuff to go back together I thought something didn't look right on the coils off my "new 88" so I went and got the ones from the old one....both theses carts start off serial number A 88 but big difference in the coils....does it matter which ones I use?......the smaller ones are better shape, less rusted, but the other ones worked (well, right up until the fire anyway)....

Great question Bud. I never noticed that but now that you mention it ..... I have seen big and small coils. Upon close inspection it appears one coil has 5 turns and the other has 3. Is that right? If so the coils may actually be the same length wire which is what matters ...... along with the gauge.
What I'm saying is they may be the same 'value' of resistance.

I just wanted to make sure they wernt off a 48 volt cart maybe (if a 48 volt resistor cart even exists) ....don't need another fire.....the size difference wont affect speed or power will it?

My 89 has the smaller set, I'd use those also. I just replaced all mine and upgraded the 4th and 5th speed to the set labeled for 'high speed motors'. 5th was 5 gauge now 4g. 4th was 6g and now 5g. 1st through 3rd are all the same size as original.

On my old 36V CC that i had I took a chance when I upgraded the motor with PQ and I took away the 1st and 2nd coil and then moved 3rd to 1st and so forth. The cart ran good and I had no issues. I don't say I recommend this and it was a chance I will willing to take. The 4th and 5th were like Ryan mentioned.

The only thing I have left to do is the PQ upgrade since remodeling this cart. I may do that this week.

something still aint right on those small coils....two or three have the same turns and are almost touching, everything I can find shows the small ones on 88 and older, big ones 88 and up.....so I don't know if the "resistance" is right.....I guess i'll use the big ones...
