Unless you really want to be "Off the Grid", an on board charger or external 12v charger is cheaper.
Lets say I nix the Solar panel, what on-board charger would be good that's not going to break the bank?

however the charger you are recommending is only 4 amps. He might as well just keep the solar panel.

I skimmed back though the thread and did not see what battery you chose. Our rule of thumb is to go with a smart charger that will deliver in the neighborhood of 10% of the batteries Ah rating. As an example, for a 100 Ah battery, go with a charger that can deliver 10A.

my solar charger works great! it's 1.5 watt and i can run stuff for hours then leave it in the sun and it recharges the aux battery up to 12.3v
the great thing is even on cloudy days it will recharge the battery

According to the manufacture description:

Quote:
4 Amp (4 Amp per bank) Smart On-Board Battery Charger for 12-volt batteries; charges and maintains all types of lead-acid batteries from 20-120Ah, including Wet, Gel, MF, and AGM
The panel in the first post was not a charger and only 1.73 amps.

Anyway, if you are going to wire a 12v auxiliar outlet, then you can use a cheap regular charger that Plugs to that port:

You would also have the option to use one like CTD pointed out for maintaining the charge.

I wasn't planning on wiring up a 12v aux outlet and I was wanting more of a clean look than a 12v aux option. No offense CTD!
