Default Re: instructions for using a battery fill bottle?

Now y'all have me wondering even more.

We have discussed NOT using tap water. In my city of location, Columbia SC, they have an additive they put in the water to help seal up the lead pipes in houses and elsewhere so folks won't get lead poison. (Note: it won't help with kids chewing on lead paint.) I wonder just how bad this sealant is for a lead battery.

I buy my distilled water.

I have used these many times as a mechanic on larger vehicles. The trick is to feel the bubbles or gurgling (in your hand used to hold the bottle) as it fills. If your bottle is working correctly the bubbling will stop when level is correct.

My suggestion is practice filling a clear plastic water bottle until you get the feel of it. It worked for me.

Mine has a quick fill. I check the batts after I fill them, perfect every time.

wasn't air conditioning water what caused Legionnaire's disease back in the 80's, not so pure water after all!

Drrip,
Yes, Legionnaire's Disease was traced to bacteria in the A/C condensate. However, I don't believe anyone in this thread said that condensate from either an A/C or dehumidifier was 100% "pure", as in NO contaminates. As these are unsealed systems, they will almost certainly have a tiny bit of airborne contamination. However, airborne dust or bacteria will not harm batteries. It's mineral contamination that ruins batteries and an A/C or dehumidifier removes minerals from the water. In fact, a process called deionization will remove minerals, but that water isn't really "pure", either.

Quick question...

I have a 5 stage RO/DI (Reverse Osmosis/De-Ionizoner) filter system I use for my aquariums at home. The TDS meter shows anywhere from 47-59 ppm from tap, and 0 ppm coming out.

Point number one shows the lack of purity from tap water.

Question: Can the 0 ppm water coming from my RO/DI system be used to top off my batteries?

Thanks all...

Budule,
You could bottle that stuff and sell it on eBay. I'd be at least as effective as the other mouse milk that's sold for battery rejuvination!
