Batteries are a little over a year old. Could be the seal on the factory caps as I know they aren't the best seal to start with. I only add water when needed after charging. I have been thinking of just installing these caps but a little expensive.

Battery caps are not sealed. They are designed to vent.

That is correct. But some seal better then others to a point.

I know on my cart sometimes there appears to be some leakage on the tops of the batteries after charging. I just dry them off and keep them clean.
The idea that batteries lose more water the older they get is certainly true.
