Club Car Questions . .

Hi all. I'm in need of some expert information.
1st post, got plenty of questions.

I bought a car from a friend who was transfering out of area. He had bought it 2nd hand. No ownrs man., just the car & charger. It ran great, charged well, no problems. Months go by, batteries don't charge as well. Car slower. I get busy, too busy and neglect car (ok... just batteries). The car displaced my wifes s-burban in garage. Ha.
Yes several months went by, I'm out of town. ok . . now charger will not charge. nothing.

6 - 8 volt batteries Trojan T-875

Charger PD2 Model 22110
AC In 120v 9A
Output 48v 13A

I checked electrolite level, several were low. topped off. NOTHING w/ charger.

Checked individual battery voltage, no load. each around 5-6 volts.

Does the Charger (PD2) have a minimum voltage before it kicks on?

Does anyone know of a 8 volt battery charger manfact to individually charge/recondition 8v batteries?
I found two options. A Deltran Battery Tender Plus (1.25A) which would be unbelievably SLOOOOW (100+ hrs each) and I found a Schumacher 16 Volt (10A) which I could run with two batteries in series.

) What model ? Can you tell by Serial #? Looks ident to DS Electric Car-IQ on .clubcar.com but specs don't match.

yes, there is a minimum voltage needed for the charger to kick on. I'm not sure what that lower limit is on the 48v, but I'm guessing in the 40-44 range? I'm sure someone else will answer though.

I believe you can charge the 8v batteries with a standard 12v charger, on low setting, and just keep a close eye on it or don't charge for very long (don't overcharge). Just get them back up close to their proper voltage, and then hook them back up and charge with the proper 48v charger.

SP is right. Use a 2 amp setting on the 12v charger. Check them each 30 minutes or less and do not let them get more than warm to touch or read higher than 10 volts at any time. However, it does sound like it may be time 4 u to get new. Neglect is the batteries worst enemy....

A = DS
Q = IQ electric
02 = 2002

The specs from Club Car won't match yours because,
CC made some changes for 2005 and up,
and the specs they have on their site are for the 08 / 09 models.

and as far as I know, you can only get owners / repair manuals
from a Club Car dealer... (although, you may want to check Ebay)

the charger needs to read approx 36 volts before it will come on.........if you don,t want to use a 12 volt charger you can open up the charger and bypass the low voltage sensor and charge them for 5 hours or so than un bypass the sensor close charger back up and it should go from there........is it a powerwise charger?...................................

I'm also having a similar problem with a Club Cart that I believe is the same year. I don't think my charger is actually charging the batteries.. but it works on a friends cart. I figured out that there is some charge controller circuitry in the cart that activates a power relay inside of the charger through the third wire on the charger plug. I tested the 3 wire plug when the charger was plugged in and got no voltage reading between any 2 terminals. Any Idea which ones to short out to activate the relay? Or should there be a resistor across them, instead of a straight shunt? I'm not sure as to the manufacture of my charger, it's pretty beat up. I can tell you that all that's in it's case is a big magnetic transformer and a relay on the primary side leading to mains, with one of the coil terminals going to the third pin on the plug. Other terminal could be to the case, maybe to the positive charge output terminal.. real rough shape, to corroded to really see much. There's also Diodes (parallel) between the secondary and the positive output. I'm new to Carts, but I've been working with electrical systems for a long time. Any input would be much appreciated. - Jay

if your charger is working on another cart than the problem is with your cart not the charger................1st thing is to check voltage in each battery and than the entire pack cause if you have less than 36 volts the charger won,t come on due to the low voltage sensor............how old are the batteries and are they well maintained? after that if voltage is good than lift the seat to make sure the fuse didn,t blow.....the fuse is right on top of the charge receptical it has a black housing and glass window......if fuse is good right below it coming out of the receptical is a grey wire with an inline fuse give that wire a tug to make sure it dosn,t come out of the receptical........if thats ok than your OBC is more than likely bad........if you know how to bypass the low voltage sensor inside the charger do that and plug charger in and if it comes on than without a doupt the OBC is bad.......i think in the end thats what your gonna find is a bad OBC.........what kind of charger? powerwise.....................................
