tap it with a mallet (wood, plastic, rubber) and try to get it to loosen up the shaft. They apparently get pretty well locked together and need some convincing to come off. I'd tap it at the end, trying to drive it further onto the shaft, and then also tap it horizontally to the shaft to try and get it to break free, but be careful not to damage the motor windings, etc, if you care to salvage it...

When you put the new motor in, use a little anti-seize compound on the shaft maybe.

I would say yes on the Never Seize on the shaft. We do this on all motors at work and when replacement is needed they come right apart.

you will probably have to use a torch and heat the coupler seems to be the only true way to convince it to come off as for destroying the windings when you hit the end of the shaft it will be unrepairable anyhow it will take a good lick trust me been there and done it

I've also used a carbon fiber saws all blade to cut the amature off, then used pulley pullers to get the remaining piece off..

Have to be careful not to cut the input shaft off though..

yeah, that would suck to cut the input shaft accidentally.

I would think tapping just the shaft of the motor with a mallet would be fine without damaging the windings, etc., since the shaft passes straight through all the way to the input shaft. Unless you're really pounding it of course. I have had to remove electric motors from other projects (totally unrelated to carts) in that manner, and the motor was fine when the job was completed. YMMV.

usually on a club car you have to hit it hard enough that you damage the end of the shaft they rust on very well

That just figures. Nothing can be as simple as it should be.
