Default 2004 Precedent IQ Speed Enhancement

Hello, I am new to Buggies Gone Wild. I have a stock 2004 Precedent IQ with 3.2hp 48v motor and a 250 amp Curtis Controller which I use for golf and commuting (at only 11mph) around our community. I would like to attain speeds of around 25mph. I am considering upgrading the system to increase both speed and torque, and am currently looking at two options: 1- a D390 motor from CartZone, and reprograming the controller to set it at high speed. 2- a new D&D Motor Systems 506:2 motor and an Alltrax 500 amp programable Controller. I understand that the D390 motor would be the simplest and least expensive way to go, but will require reprograming the controller ($250 at our local dealer which seems like a big ripoff )

I would appreciate thoughts on the following:

1) If I go the D&D 506:2 motor/Alltrax 500amp controller route, would I also need to upgrade with a heavy duty solenoid, F/R switch, along with 4 gauge wiring? Would this be a straight forward conversion? Comments on D&D motors?
2) Would I be better off going the D390 motor route and enduring the controller reprograming ripoff? Any cheaper way to reprogram the controller?

Thanks for your input.

An alltrax 400 amp controller by itself should give you approximately 24mph.

Thank you for your input. Would I need to upgrade wiring size? Would I simply unplug the curtis controller and plug in the Alltrax, or will it require some re-wiring? If so, do wiring diagrams come with the Alltrax? If not, how can I obtain wiring diagrams?

the wiring on the new controller will be a little different as most alltrax have elimininated one of the 4 big studs on their controller...........it comes with simple directions that you should be able to get by with and if it comes with the 250 amp fuse make sure you use it as it will save you ruining a new controller if you mis-wire something..........so far all the alltrax controllers i have put in are not to bad at all once you get used to leaving a few cables off that arn,t needed thats the scary part........took me all day one time to get the nerve to try the cart because of this......i didn,t know what was going to happen but i did and it worked fine......from than on its like ok no big deal......................................

My 04 Precedent that I just bought runs 19 mph by my GPS. Is this stock or has something been done to it?
I hope I am not derailing the thread, I just saw the 11 MPH from the original post and was wondering what was stock.

My understanding is that the stock controller can be reset by a dealer, or at the factory to a high speed setting. Yours must have been set at this high speed setting, if you can reach 19 mph. The Club Car Dealer here in Palm Springs area wants $250 to change the setting on mine, which is done with a computer after obtaining the proper setting for my specific controller from the manufacturer -- a 10 min. operation, I am told.

$250 seems way over priced. I would check Club Car's website for other local dealers and call around. I have heard it costs around $75 for the codes to reprogram. I think I would go with the Alltrax and D&D motor or have the stock motor redesigned by Electrical Motor Products. I plan on having my redesigned during the winter months. I really like the 2 speed setup they have.

Thanks for your input. I have decided to go the electric motor redesign route. It sounds like the simplest and most cost-effective approach to increasing the speed of my cart. I should receive the motor in about 3 weeks and will post comments about how it worked out, once I have a chance to test it out.
