Default 2004 club car 36v will only drive in slow speed need help

i have a 2004 club car 36volts that it rurns over but when you press the go pedal it only goes very very slow and it will not go fast, same thing in reverse.

I lifted the cart to see if it was maybe a weak motor or something similar and its the same speed on the ground and lifted

It has new batteries, all connected the right way, all cables have proper ground and terminals are good, same issue.

It has standard size tires.

The charger works and the charger connector works too.

I check the "shifter" for good connection and its good.

What could it be? any ideas where to start or what to troubleshoot?

thanks

Welcome to BGW!
Are you sure it's 36v? Count the fill holes on the batteries. 3=6v, 4=8v
Also, if you could get the serial number from the tag on the dash by the go pedal, it would tell us what type of cart you have.

Now that I think of it, I think 04 was the last year. Kinda hard to believe they made resistors in 04!

. . . you can check behind keyswitch plate, on right side frame member . . should be an additional serial id sticker/plate there . . . disconnect battery pack when removing keyswitch plate so not to possibly cause short when removing plate . . . and put cart in TOW prior to disconnecting pack . . .

I believe 04 was the introduction of the Precedent and 03 was the last year 36v resistor coil carts were made ... they were inexpensive fleet carts for the golf courses to lease.
