Batteries/charging
I bought 6 brand new 8 volt batteries for my cart. Marked all the cables as I took them off old batteries. Put new batteries in and hooked back up all the cables as they came off. Drove it around the cart barn just to make sure all was good. Parked it back into my spot and plugged charger in and got nothing. Thinking maybe it didn't need to come on cause of the new batteries. Asked a few people around the course if that is why the charger did not come on. Most, if not all said new batteries or even fully charged batteries the charger still should have came on. At same time was told if the batteries are under a certain amount of low voltage that the charger would now kick on if so. They would then need to be trickled charged to certain amount of volts. Got the volt meter out of truck and tested all batteries. Each one showed 8.35 volts, so we are good there. Ok well maybe charger all of sudden went bad. I take my charger to another 48 volt cart and bam charger comes on. So I checked the plug by my cart with the meter and it's good. Just to ease my mind took a friends 48 volt charger from his cart to my cart. Plugged it in and still got nothing. Next, checked all fuses. Fuses all good. So I go back and checked all cables to make sure they are all tight and connected correctly even pulled up a diagram of the batteries connections on my on my phone plus had another guy put his eyes on them, still ok there. At this point batteries checked good and connections are good. Charger is good, fuses are good. But still nothing. Only other thing I can think of is either most are wrong when it comes to the charger kicking on not matter if batteries are charged fully. If not that maybe for some reason all the sudden my OBC(on board computer)has gone bad.
Any other ideas to try? Thanks. |

Re: Batteries/charging
check the pack volts at the charger plug on the cart and tell us what you get?, did you run the ground back through the OBC? did you put the cart in TOW before you disconnected any battery cables?, what year cart? and what drive system do you have, did the cart charge before you changed the batteries?

Re: Batteries/charging
Yes, it did charge. Always came on when connected. I do not have a tow switch but the cart was in neutral F/R switch straight up. As for the OBC i never disconnected it I did hook the small black wire and small red wire back up while reconnecting cables. I will check the back of the plug tomorrow. Not sure what drive system it has, I know it's not a regen system. The cart is 2002 or 2003.
Thanks again. |

Re: Batteries/charging
If your pack is reading 50.1v then there is more than enough for the charger to kick on.
Are you getting pack voltage at the charge receptacle? Stick the meter where the cord goes to make sure |

Re: Batteries/charging
Problem solved. While checking the back of the cart receptacle I noticed the red wire that goes to the number 1 battery positive was awful tight with no play. Traced it and notice it got pinched against the aluminum frame and battery shorting the wire out. Fixed the bad spot on the wire then plugged charger in and on it came. Should have looked around better i guess but either way it's fixed now. Thanks for all the advice guys.
