Default Welding cable: Is 2/0 the same as 2 gauge?

The title says it all. :) Just want to get it right before I buy the stuff to redo my cables. Thanks, JD

So 2/0 is way to big to use on a 48 volt carryall?

Here's an excerpt of a table from Wikipedia:
00 (2/0) is .365" diameter 2ga is .258" diameter.
It's a bit overkill, but if you have the wire laying around, of course you can use it! You may have a little difficulty finding terminal ends to fit both the wire and having a 8mm hole. A check on Google may find you some, though!

They do make a 2ga welding cable. You can check the net for wire gauge sizes, then measure what you have.remember they measure by wire size not including covering.

Thanks for all the replies. I found some more welding cable that is allot smaller. I'm gonna check to see what size it is and get ends to fit it. Thanks, JD

RIB33024, Please educate me and tell me what type\kind of wire the "2" on the chart is vs the "2/0" wire is. (Obviously the 2/0 is larger in diameter....but what kind of wire is that vs the 2 wire?)

Thanks.

Dave
