Default Installing 36v motor in 48v cart

Before anyone jumps all over me, I tried the search feature and ended up with 20 pages of stuff that I could find no answer! I must be search feature ignorant and can't figure out how to get the results I need!

I have a 96 Club Car DS with 48v Powerdrive system. I THINK I have read that you can install a 36v motor in the 48v cart and pick up more speed. The cart is strictly used on the golf course, and I just would like for it to run faster than what it does, which I think is around 11-12 mph. Will any 36v motor work on this, or is there a certain year model I need to look for?

Any helpful ideas or info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply Scotty! The reason I came here to all of you knowledgeable folks is that my local cart guy said the splines in the motors were different and it wouldn't work. I thought I remembered reading where a 36v motor would work.

Is there any certain year model motor I need to look for, or will just any 36v from a Club Car fit?

Thanks again.

You want a female 10 spline, some of the old old 36v were different.

Thanks again Scotty! You and others that are so knowledgeable about carts are what makes this site the best on the internet! I will do a little looking around and see if I can come up with one.

Thanks again.
