Default cart won't move, solenoid terminal was melted.

Hi, I'm new to the forum and a new cart owner. I bought a '99 Club Car 36V. When the cart was delivered,it didn't move.I was assured it worked the day before (I know the prev owner,no reason to doubt him). I don't know much about carts, but I have many years in the auto industry so I thought I'd take a look. Found the Neg terminal melted apart on the solenoid. replaced solenoid with a new one, now reverse buzzer sounds ,but cart makes no attempt to move-no clicks, nothing. I checked to ensure all cables were tight and clean. After doing a search, I plan on checking all the battery voltages, even though cart worked the day before. Is there anything known that would cause this problem after a solenoid failure? Or reason the solenoid failed? I would appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks in advance!

did you wire the solenoid up right? where did you get your replacement solenoid? jack the rear up and jump the large post of solenoid see if cart runs if so faulty solenoid if not it could be in the F&R switch or micro switches, make sure the batteries are fully charged and cabled right...................

Just to be clear...do I jump across both large terminals,or from ground to each post? Thanks

You would jump from one large terminal of the solenoid to the other large terminal of the solenoid, effectively removing the solenoid from the high current circuit.

Update-I remove the cover from the back of the wiper switch and found the harness loop from the power terminal at the bottom going to the moving contact arm was rubbed through against the stud on the arm itself.Would this cause the solenoid terminal to melt? The switch doesn't look bad,but has the slight burnt electrical smell .
Also,is it common for the batteries to gurgle..even when they are not attached? Thanks!

sorry, another question-I jumped the two large posts as described, but does the accelarator need to be on for this to work?

Yes. Jump the solenoid and then try to operate the cart as usual (on stands).

You did buy a 36 volt selonoid and not a 12 volt from the local parts house I hope.

This could cause a short and had melted the selonoid. I would fix it before trying anymore tests. You need to understand these toys are voltage and amp senative to everything.

Yes, new solenoid was from a cart dealer and specs were the same.
