36v DS looking for suggestions... 48v?

I have a 98 club car ds that I bought stock. I have added a 8" lift and am about to purchase 12" wheels and 22" tires. Bought 10"/22" used wheels and tires off Craigslist when I got the lift just as a temp solution.

Here's what I would like to do:
I want to use this as a hunting buggy / play in the woods.
They are making our town a golf cart friendly community, so I would like longer run times.
Be able to cruise around 25-30mph

I have read about speed controllers and motors, etc. but am not quite sure about what it is I need exactly so I would like someone to list what they would do if it were their cart and wanted these things, i.e., what motor, speed controller, cables, solenoid, etc.

It gets pretty confusing with all the different options, so if someone could help me out, I would greatly appreciate it.

To do what you want to do you will need

Controller - 400A Alltrax AXE
48v solenoid - HD version
F/R switch - HD version
Throttle input - MCOR or Vglide

Contact scottyb at www.cartsunlimited.net He can hook you up with a package to convert everything.

I would leave the 36v motor in and run it on 48v. Should get you pretty good speeds. Not 30mph though

I agree with Sunoco, 48v would be the way to go, and your 36v motor will perform well with 48v...
You will also need a 48v charger if you go to 48v...

So leaving the stock motor will increase the speed and torque when converting the system over to 48v? What about going with Bandit motor? I was surprised that no one suggested a motor upgrade.

Yes the 36v motor run on 48v will increase speed and torque about 33% (per scottyb). Its kinda like overclocking your computer. You can go with a bandit if you want but I think you will get about the same speed out of the 36v motor on 48v

Ok, so if I wanted to stick with 36v for while longer (since I just bought new batteries about 3 months ago) can I still use the same parts you suggested earlier and then just swap batteries over to 48v later?

You know how when you ask a stupid question you kinda cringe inside, hoping that someone takes pity and doesn't expose just how stupid it really is? This is one of those times...

I suggest you run the cart on 48v first... 48v will increase motor rpm and torque by 33%. This is a larger gain than a Bandit motor and 48v is where you want to be performance wise. You will need to do all the usual upgrades and get a well made aftermarket motor to get 25mph from this cart. You will need all the above and a gear change to get 30mph from a series drive cart. Hope this helps

Haha. Well the only stupid questions are the ones not asked. I don't think you can run a 48v controller on 36 volts unless it is specified as 36-48v. I have personally never tried it but I do not think it will work. Convert everything at once when you are ready

YES
All of our controllers operate on 36-48v. No reprogramming required. Some of our solenoids can be used with 36-48v too. We can set you up with a controller pkg that runs on 36v now and 48v later. Also remember you can add 2 6v batteries to the pack for a total of 8 = 48v

Lots of guys have converted their carts from Six to Eight 6v batteries (there are photos in this forum showing what they did to accomplish this). The run times are longer and there's more current (therefore more torque) available too (depending on controller/cables of course). So you may not have to throw away (or sell) your investment (if you hurry - don't let your 6v batteries get much older if you choose to add two more to the pack).
