Battery reconditioning?
Pop off the battery caps, drain w baster, refill just over plates w epson/distilled water solution, and leave charging over night w caps off...
I've read a bit about this but I'm still unsure about a few things. Should I test my batteries first? If so how? Can this be done w batteries in the cart, or do i need to pull them all out? My cart holds a charge and runs but due to some shammy wiring and age I think it could use a service... |

Re: Battery reconditioning?
Your kidding right? That's a very risky/bad plan. If that really worked everyone would be doing it. Its one thing to try to extend their life with a new tech computerized float charger. But bathing plates in Epsom salts is a quick way to create 6 boat anchors (in my conservative opinion).

You'd think he would be better off with an electric troll motor.

Snake Oil! Don't do this unless your batteries are already junk.

Re: Battery reconditioning?
I've done this on batteries that were shot. At first the batteries would say bad cell when hooked up to a 12v charger. After a while they would start charging right until the charger said battery full. Been running those batteries for a while now.

Re: Battery reconditioning?
Is this the way they do it when they say they will rejuivinate your battery and make it last another year of so?
How do you make sure all the epsoms salt is out of the cells? I don't like the idea myself. |

Re: Battery reconditioning?
I have heard of the Epsom salt thing, never done it myself...
I have NEVER heard of charging with the caps off. The only thing you should ever add to your batts is distilled water IMO. |

Re: Battery reconditioning?
I haven't tried this myself, but a friend told me of his experience replacing the battery acid. He had an 8 volt that was reading about 8.05 and his son in law advised him to give the battery a shake, empty the current battery acid and refill with new battery acid. He did this and said a lot of "gunk" came out of the battery and he assumed this was the residue on the bottom of the battery.
After putting this battery back into the cart, he recharged and the battery is now reading 8.57. |
