Precedent brakes locking up

Something happened to the brakes on our car this morning while here at Fort Wilderness. They want to lockup when I press the pedal past down about 2 thirds. It seems like I may have lost a spring but I can't say for sure, does anyone have a drawing of where the pedal assembly attaches to the cable assembly? Thanks for the help!

BTW, I'm having a great time here! Will post some pics this week.

UPDATE:

I was able to look at it a little closer and just the left side is locking up. I put a lift on several months ago and that cable was a bit tight. What I can't figure out is what has changed. One thing I did notice is that the right rear u-bolt is a little bent. Is it possible that that has caused a forward shift on the right side? Are longer brake cables available for lifted carts?

When you lifted the car you brought your brake cables along with it.
**************** makes a little bracket that you can bolt on and
lower the cables.

I think those are for lifted DS carts... not Precedents

Do 1 thing first... (it happened to me also)

Remove the tire and drum from the affected side,
and clean the "glazing" from the shoes and drum with
emory cloth, or fine (metal) sandpaper...
Do both sides while your at it...
(if 1 side does it, the other will soon follow!)

Thanks, I'll give that a shot. When it happened to you did you get any kind of warning or did it start to happen all of a sudden?

Nope...

All of the sudden...

I had the lift on for about 5 months, (and I also still have tight brake cables)
and then... just lightly touching the brake would cause them to lock up!
I thought since it was a 98 DS that maybe the shoes were worn,
so I bought new ones... ($55.00 for the pair) then when I tore it down,
the shoes were in good shape, but had "Glazing"... cleaned them with emory cloth
and needless to say... they've been working well now for about a year!

I hope yours is as easy!

I pulled the rear drum and no such luck, very minor glazing in one spot. I scuffed it up anyway. A few more things to add, it does not lock up in reverse. Also, the bracket that attaches the cables to the pedal assembly seems to have a lot of vertical play. Does anyone know if there is suppose to be a spring that holds that in place?

If it only happens while moving forward it might be caused by the rear rolling and pulling the cables that much more when brakes are applied.
Check the U-bolts and retighten if needed. Any chance you can run the brake cable differently to gain some slack?
I have on some lifts where I just need a bit of slack is move the mount for the cables back about an inch and add a (I think) #60 chain master link to the end of the cable. Might save the cost of cables.

You might check to see if the perch bolts are tight, mine loosened up and as you brake the axle will do a small twist (rotation), and cause the brakes to grab.

Thanks guys! I tightened everything up and it's much better now. Still pulses a bit but it's no too bad.
