Default HOT resistor on solenoid. Help!

1994 Club Car - full solid state conversion.

FSIP 700a controller.

Just got everything hooked up for the first time and caught the distinct smell of something hot. Quickly removed the 36v+ lead and started to investigate.

After feeling around, I noticed that the resistor that goes across the two big lugs on the new solenoid is awfully hot.

Any ideas what would cause this?

Update - I'm done working on it for the day but just had an idea. This cart has a 36-12v converter, and I realized in my haste that I had the 36v+ lead hooked up to b+ on the controller which doesn't get power until the solenoid pulls in. Possible/probable that this converter was trying to pull juice through - and heating up the resistor since the contractor was not 'pulled in'. ?
