Run Time Problem/Not Battery Related
I have a 1997 Club Car DS with the Speed/Torque kit installed. It is my winter cart. When trying to use it this winter I would only get 1 hour run time out of the batteries. They are 3 year old Trojans. I also have a 2003 Yamaha G22 with batteries that I bought the same time. In the Yamaha I can run all day. I switched the two sets of batteries between the carts but the results are still the same. All day in the Yamaha and 1 hour in the Club Car. I have checked all connections and gone so far as to check the rear end and all wheel bearings in case they were dragging but they are not. Could there be something wrong with the speed/torque motor or controller that would make the cart burn through the batteries so fast? I have had them for 4 years and have never had a problem until now.
Thanks. |

mturkett,
Are the brakes dragging? can you easily push the cart with one arm? You can jack up the rear and see how free they spin? Sometimes I drive for a little while then check the drum to see if its hot? Just a thought. Steve |

Re: Run Time Problem/Not Battery Related
Just because the batteries between the two carts were bought at the same time doesn't mean that one battery hasn't had a cell failure. That can happen even with new batteries. After running the cart for one hour - check the voltage of each battery separately to see if there's a large variation in one (or two) of them.

What motor and controller do you have? Wire guage? F/R? Does the cart actually die or if you let it sit for a while can you go again?

Re: Run Time Problem/Not Battery Related
I have a Buggies Unlimited speed/torque motor and controller set with the 6 gauge cables. I can let it sit for weeks and the batteries will not discharge.
Was finally able to get the cart out and run it. Ran it for 30 minutes and felt all of the cables, connections, the controller, and the motor and nothing was hot. Will have to wait till I can go at it again to test it with the voltmeter but it all seems normal. Leads me to believe it is a battery issue but I am still not sure as I can swap batteries out with other carts and they other carts run fine. Just this cart. Does this controller need brand new batteries? Mine are very well maintained and are only 3 years old. Two sets. |

Since you said you switched battery packs and had the same results, it seems as if something on the CC is draining the cart all the time... |

When you swapped out the batteries were they fully charged? I don't think the batteries would be fully drained that fast without something getting really hot. I bet either your controller or solenoid is shutting you down. You need to do some trouble shooting, process of elimination would be the easiest way.

I have changed to new batteries, different motors as well as changed the wiring to #1 welding cable and none of those items helped. I'm upgrading the POT with a MCOR conversion this weekend because my POT failed, but I don't think that is the problem. What size tires do you have on your cart? |

Re: Run Time Problem/Not Battery Related
Not sure which controller I have. It came with the kit and has the Buggies Unlimited logo on it. I have 23" tires.
Just did a battery test. Fully charged batteries under a load read: 8.25 8.07 7.99 8.17 8.17 7.96 Full bank under a load is 48.4 volts. |
