Not charging
I have a 97 ds. 48v. Cart I got it with no charger so I borrowed one from a buddy. The charger is a power drive 3 48v. When I got the charger it was connected to my buddy's cart and I could hear it humming. We un plugged it brought it to my house. Plugged it into the outlet then into the cart. NOTHING!! I don't Evernote hear it humming. Any thoughts??? I checked to make sure there was power to the outlet and it was working. I need advise.
Thanks |

Re: Not charging
If all the wiring on the cart is correct, and the batt voltage is not already too low (will the cart still move under its own power?) Then the OBC may be bad. The cart controlls the charger, the charger is dumb and only does what the cart tells it to do. You can try resetting the OBC by disconnecting the main pos and neg battery pack leads and leaving the cart in reverse until the reverse buzzer has been silent for a few minutes. If the batteries are too dead, the charger will not turn on until the batts are closer to their normal voltage.

Re: Not charging
The only need for the buzzer during this procedure is to drain all remaining power after the batts are disconnected. You could just wait a while, or turn the key on and press the pedal with the main wires disconnected. Please be careful and safe, that is why i suggested the reverse buzzer method of draining the system, its the safest way i know of.

Re: Not charging
No, that would be a bad idea without any sure way to recharge them... We just want to try resetting the OBC. Considering that they have been sitting since haloween, Im sure they would qualify for a charge.

Re: Not charging
Cgtech thank you a
For all the help. So after I disconnect the batteries and drain the remaining power from the controller do I just reconnect the main positive and negative and if the controller is good when I connect the charger again it should kick on? If not then what. Again thanks for all of the help |

Re: Not charging
Yes, as you said... If it doesnt work, Inspect the OBC cover for burn marks. (follow the negative lead towards the back of the cart). I have some more info in my books at shop (monday).

Re: Not charging
So I've tried to reset the controller as described above. Nothing. I took off the body and inspected the controller and all other electrical parts. Nothing looks to be burnt or broke or out of order. Any idea where to go next from here?
Thanks all for any advice!!!!! |

Re: Not charging
The controller actually has nothing to do with charging, the OBC is what controls the charger.
Try to reset the OBC using this procedure: http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...tting-obc.html Don't worry about hearing the buzzer, most people don't hear it when they reset the OBC. Just make sure you leave it sit for at least 5 minutes. Then try the charger again. Does the charger even click when you plug the charger into the cart? I have always heard that all the PD chargers are compatible with one another, but if you have a PD1 charger you could try on the cart, that would be a good test since that is the charger that would have come with the cart originally in 1997... |
