Bypassing speed resistor solenoid
Have a 97 DS 48V CC. It has two solenoids, one which seems to be solely for the speed resistor coil.
A friend told me that you can remove this solenoid and rewire the speed coil to the other solenoid to improve speed. Anyone know more about this? Thanks |

Re: Bypassing speed resistor solenoid
I also have a '97 CC DS, but mine does not have coils. I didn't know that they had any with coils in '97. Sorry, I can't be of any assistance. Mine was previously owned so maybe it was already modified?

Re: Bypassing speed resistor solenoid
???? Never heard anything like that - if it were true, everyone would do it. Are you talking about increasing speed in reverse? There might be a coil for reverse, depending on the model of your cart - its not clear what kind of cart you have. Year and voltage is less than half the story. Is it a series or regen cart? Need model#, but don't hold your breath for a speed increase with a coil bypass.

Re: Bypassing speed resistor solenoid
I don't think he's telling you right. The second solenoid is for the regen system. It can be eliminated simply take the two high amperage cables off of it and bolt them together or get a new cable. This will not improve speed.

Re: Bypassing speed resistor solenoid
It can be removed, but it won't improve speed at all. It will make the Regen braking more abrupt and harsh.

Re: Bypassing speed resistor solenoid
Is the 97 Regen 1 one of those models that if you disconnect the speed sensor it will prevent Regen (not pedal up brake) from engaging?

Re: Bypassing speed resistor solenoid
Yes - I'm pretty sure thats true on my Regen 1 (eg. just unplug the regen sensor plug from the motor) - might also be true of Regen 2. But that would only increase my speed downhill - WOT on flat ground doesn't bring Regen into play.

Re: Bypassing speed resistor solenoid
You are correct. This applies to Regen1 and Regen2

Re: Bypassing speed resistor solenoid
The coil on Aussiebob's cart is part of the Regen1 system. You don't have any coils because you have a 1997 Series controller cart. (Non-Regen)

Re: Bypassing speed resistor solenoid
Thanks for the comments. Since I bought the cart 2nd hand it may have some modification. Basically it has the old black T box controller, no Tow/Run switch. The solenoid I was talking about is located to the left as you look into the rear access opening. The coil itself has 6 loops.
Think the comments about increased speed not being achieved by bypassing this solenoid are correct. My friend only heard this second hand. But from what you are saying, I most likely have the Regen I system the coil only effects the braking. I'm going to leave it the way it is. Getting new batteries tomorrow so it shouldn't have to do any other alterations. |
