CC brakes draging
hello all I have a 94 clubcar 36V v glide resistor cart. when I got the cart it would not stop even with the wore out batteries.
I replaced the pads and now am having draging issues. with the wheels off you can put the drums on and it turns easy enough but tighten the drums down even a little and the become much harder . the drums turn free about a 1/4 of a turn then they get hard to turn. The brake pads look the same can they be mixed up ? thanks in advance DD |

Re: CC brakes draging
I am not positive but I think that the set of 4 brake pads come with 2 of two different sizes, one for the front side of the drum, one for the back.

Be sure to lube all the spots where the brake shoes touch the backing plates. Don't over do the lube. Also the brake shoes should self center inside the drums. Make sure your brake cables are not binding. When I got my cart the brakes would grab on one wheel, I have not had a problem since I cleaned and lubed them.

When you adjust the shoes with the manual adjuster, tap the drum with a hammer to center the shoes. Repeat as necessary and then back off a lobe or two when done.

Re: CC brakes draging
There should be a "L" pad and a "T" pad. ( leading and trailing). The leading pad goes toward the back of the cart.
Someone may have tightened the cable under the floor board to try and get more brake. Loosen the cable and then install your drums. Lubricate the slide on the backing plate (where the cable attaches to the brake assembly). Set the adjuster until it starts grabbing the drum, then back 2 clicks. Retighten the cable under the floor to gain desired pedal |

Re: CC brakes draging
Hello I took everything back apart there were no L or T markings on the pads. With the adjusters all the way in the pads rub to the point that the wheels are hard to turn. I took the pads and ground about a 1/16 off the top and reinstralled them. There is no draging and I was able to adjust the brakes the way they are supposed to be. It seems to be much better won't be able to tell for sure till the weather clears and I get my motor back from Plum Quick "Bandit " upgrade can't wait. any further thoughts are always welcome Thanks DD

Re: CC brakes draging
The shape of the brake shoes is different, the metal part. One is for the leading and the other is trail. I don't know how to post the picture of them, maybe someone else will.

Re: CC brakes draging
Find my unusually confused. DD? You have a 94 CC with self-adjusting brakes? (not normal) No adjustment shaft at the top of the backing plate and a lower adjuster as shown in Steve's pics? If so, yes, there is a lead shoe and a trailing shoe, If you have the manually adjusting brakes it sounds like the shoes are upside down.
