Default Xrt 850 vs. Ds

Is the xrt 850 actually a DS with a different front end?

What's the difference between the 800 and 850?

What is the factory lift that comes on the xrt 850?

I have a 2001 DS and was giving serious thought to trading it for the XRT 850 at the dealer here in Tampa. I want the look of the 850, the lift to me is the perfect height. And I like the front end.

I guess I really just need someone to talk me out of spending 8k when I already have a perfectly good DS, albeit in all it's factory stock glory.

Thanks for the input, and by the way....This forum is an excellent source of info for the DIY'ers like myself. I appreciate it.

I really don't know much about the XRTs, but I found this on Wikipedia:

The Precedent cart uses an aluminum box-tube style frame, which, with modifications, also underpins the line of XRT 4 wheel drive vehicles. The Precedent frame is extremely similar to the design of the DS, but does not use as much aluminum for it uses a composite panel that underpins the floorboard and parts of the engine or battery compartment. This member is friction-bonded to the rest of the carriage.

So it appears that the XRT line uses the Precedent frame...

Thanks for the info. I stopped to look at the XRT's but I never did speak to a salesman. For some reason they looked bigger than my DS. I guess it was the taller front end and the higher stance.

Ok here goes:

You can put a lift and bigger wheels/tires as well as an upgraded drive system on your DS for much less than $8k. A lift, wheels, tires, controller, cables, motor would probably be between $2-3k total, and you can customize it how you want...

I hear you. I wonder though, what the lift dimensions on the xrt is from the factory.

The XRT850 and the XRT810 are both on a DS frame. The 850 has a factory Z-Bar lift kit. The 810 does not. Otherwise, pretty much the same car. The 810 uses a different rear body with a plastic dump bed. The 850 uses a DS rear body.

Thanks for the info. I'm definately not cutting my frame to add a z lift. I'm shocked the factory would even consider this type of modification.
