12v accessory battery
if I use a separate 12v battery for my usb ports and my lights, do i really to install fuses? after all it is just a single 12v system.

Your car/truck/van is just a simple 12volt system too... How much does that smart phone that you're going to charge cost? Vs. how much does a fuse holder and fuse cost? How about how much would it cost to replace your cart if one of those non-fused wire contacted metal (such as suspension components) sparked, and started a fire? What if it did it while you weren't around, like if it's on the battery charger/tender and burned done the shed/garage? IOW, run a fuse on everything! As close as possible to the battery so if it does blow the fuse, you won't have several feet of hot wire exposed. Just my 2cents...

As mentioned, fuses are cheap electrical insurance.

If are hooking up multiple items use a fuse block. One wire from the battery to it and then run your wires from it. All fuses in one place.

Fuse sizes are determined by the amount of draw the device you are hooking up needs, you can also put in over sized fuses, that would be the same as just hard wiring it.

For for my iPhone and smaller devices a 5amp fuse should work fine then? What size fuses are others using? Can anyone chime in.
