Default What's the best year/version for a Precedent upgrade project?

Hello all!
I'm very happy with my 2002 CC DS. It has all the speed/torque that I want/need.
But I like the looks of the Precedent and am thinking about buying one as a project cart.
I already know to stay away from the 4/12V battery system. But I also understand that certain years or version of the Precedent are tougher for making performance upgrades (motor/controler upgrades, etc.)

So, what year/model/type of Precedent should I be shopping for???

Here is a list of the upgrades I would want to do:

1) 6 inch lift.
2) HD leaf springs.
3) Off road wheel/tires.
3) 22 MPH or more for speed.
4) Enough torque to handle of road hills/bumps and to climb in and out of my pick up bed.
5) Rear seat.
6) Light package.
7) 30 amp reducer and fuse box for multiple accesories. (sterieo, etc.)
8: Camo wrap.
9)Missle launcher.... (just kidding.....)

What suggestions do you have?

Thanks!

Sounds like a good plan!
Basically stay away from two things, one of which you already know:
1.) 4-12v batts
2.) Excel cars (I think they started in 2010 and then exclusively produced starting in 2012). You can tell the difference by the beginning of the serial numbers- PQ=IQ, PH=Excel

To upgrade an Excel cart, you must first replace the wiring harness with an IQ harness, which is extra $$$

Can't wait to see that missile launcher!!!

I have a excel cart and the only controller upgrade is from fsip, where I purchased my controller from. And yes the IQ carts have more controllers to upgrade to. Just swap out the controller and get a Plum Quick bandit motor and you would be all set. You can also keep your stock controller if you just decide to do a motor up grade.

I have a 2008 + and love it, it has 4 12v batteries but I found out here that the tray has an insert I just need to pull out to convert to 6 8v batteries, I got lucky. So things apparently change fast with these carts from club car, posting this question here is smart, wish I did the same LOL.

As far as I know, from reading posts on this site, it's a range thing..... Maybe someone else can elaborate on the difference.

When not in hunt camp, the range would not be an issue for me. My average trip is usually about 3 miles, once a week.

But in camp I do a lot of runnig around and could be over a mile away from the RV if I get stuck. so I want all the range I can get....

Well range...yes, but also longer life. Its hard (AKA impossible) to come up with exact numbers because people use their carts so differently - but all things being equal, a well cared for 4 x 12 typically has about two years shorter lifespan than a pack of 6 x 8.

Smile Re: What's the best year/version for a Precedent upgrade project?

I have an 09 Precedent with 6 8's I like it just needs a little more torque. Already upgraded the wires to 2g. Looking to do controller and seloniod next. Also have to put new lift on because I bent something on the front end with the spindle lift. If you are planning to be a little rough on it I would consider putting an a-arm lift on, heard they hold up better if you plan on putting your cart in the woods. Who knows might even change motor later on down the line.
