'02 CC DS stretch & lifted PROJECT cart - where do I start?
Thanks for this forumn - I am new to the electric GC deal and have done what research I can but now I'm seeking guidance based on your experience. I want to make sure I tackle this project in the correct order and with the correct "fixes". I will start a project thread once it starts but need a plan of attack first.
I think I have an '02 CC DS IQ 48V that has been lifted and stretched but is otherwise stock in terms of motor, computer, controller etc. 48V with 4 12V now but I know that needs to change eventually if not first thing (having them checked out today along with OBC becasue I likely have a battery, speed sensor or OBC issue) Cart runs up tot 15. Motor is a GE 48V 3.2hp I know nothing about the motor, controller etc. deal. and would welcome some advice... 1) Is the stock motor setup enough to power it now that it is stretched + lift or would I be stressing/damaging something with a 4-6 passenger load? 2) Is just upgrading the motor to something like a PQ Bandit enough or do I have to also upgrade controller and other components. 3) is a magnet enough to get some speed (all flat ground) 4) What would you do and check out in terms of power and in what order (assuming batteries are taken care of) This is just neighborhood crusier for my family of 5 and friends. All flat ground. I'd like it to go 20-25 if possible. Have a polaris 500 crew for heavier duty & more speed so trying to keep this project somewhat reasonable but want it to be right. Therefore I would prefer not spend $1k+ in full blown motor system upgrades if it can be avoided but a few hundred to get it right is fine. |

Interesting cart...
I bet that cart has very little torque. Does it slow down on hills? The cart originally had 6-8v batts, which will produce more run time and longer pack life. With a lift kit installed, you should have a larger controller to produce more torque. As for speed, you can upgrade the motor with something like a PQ Bandit, which will achieve speeds close to 25 mph... A PQ Bandit is $225 and a 500 amp Sepex controller should be around $400-$500... Thanks - that confirmed what I gathered from my research. But raises the next question.
I am on the gulf coast of TX which = FLAT. No hills. Therefore do I "need" torque? Am I damaging or straining my cart or the new PQ by not upgrading the controller to offset the lift if I am on flat ground exclusively? |

If it's flat, then you won't be going up any hills that need torque, so no you don't need it and you're not straining the motor since it's flat land.
You said you were going 15 mph, which I think is Speed Code 3. You can upgrade to Code 4 and get 20 mph without changing a thing. If you want more speed after that, a Bandit upgrade would get you 25 mph... |
