Slow Club Car 1999 DS Series
I've recently bought a 1999 Club Car DS series which even with brand new quality batteries is slow when going up hill. I have checked and adjusted the toe in, the camber, the tyre pressures and greased all available grease nipples and also replaced all bushes for the suspension. Unfortunately the buggies is slow going at only a little more than walking pace when going up a normal road hill. Has anyone had the same problem and if so, were they able to improve the up hill speed.

. . . what is speed on flat surface? . . . . have you load tested your batteries and checked the SG of every cell? . . .

Re: Slow Club Car 1999 DS Series
I have the same cart and HAD the same problem. The fix is super easy. Call the guys at Plumb Quick Motors and ask for a Bandit. They can take your stock motor and refresh it. Or (what I did) keep your motor, pay the core charge and they send you a refurbished motor that they had in stock (now I have my stock motor for back-up or resale).
Takes a week to ship and about 30min to install with a socket wrench. Expect to spend around $300. Went from a top speed of 11mph to now 27mph. On hills went from 5mph stock to 13mph. Speed measured using a iphone app so it may not be accurate (but it sure feels like it). Measure your batteries. If they check out fine you need to call Plumb Quick. |

Many thanks usmc4hire for your suggestion. I had seen the website with the Bandit and they said that you could expect 25% extra which didn't seem very impressive. However, if I can get the same improvement, it will be excellent. Any downside? Did you need to change anything else?

marine 4 hire results are not Typical. Call PQ to verify what you should expect.
Once in a blue moon somebody posts results like this but I have not gotten them and most of the Bandit customers have not gotten them. There are other factors at play here not disclosed. |

The beauty of the Bandit upgrade is that it is "plug-and-play". Use a socket to remove four bolts and four wires, slide old tired motor off, slide new Bandit on, reconnect everything and you're done. Heck, if you're bendy you could even do the swap without jacking the cart off the ground. Just use caution, its a very tight fit and the motors weigh in at 25-30 lbs which can be awkward to lift from the cart. PQ motors have a handle witch makes installing a breeze. Its safe to say that your cart (if properly maintained) will go 25mph after install. |

4ga cables for the batteries (not throughout the whole cart). iphone app to measure speed (not a reliable measurement). Top speed Bandit run was one passenger (200lbs) and NO REAR SEAT. Stock top speed run was two passengers (350lbs) and stock rear seat (45lbs). Did not send in my stock motor, paid PQ to supply the core. Fresh suspension and tires on Bandit run. Not the case when testing my stock speed. |

In the years that I have been on this site I remember 1 other person getting tremendous results like you have. It makes you wonder which motor core you got , huh? |

Re: Slow Club Car 1999 DS Series
. . . from Plum Quick . . .
**36 volt carts with only the Bandit motor upgrade should get around a 20% increase in both overall torque and speed. **48 volt carts with only the Bandit motor upgrade should get around a 25% increase in both overall torque and speed. . . . so, based on that . . . 120% of 15 mph = 18 mph 125% of 15 mph = 18.75 mph . . . that is all they "guarantee" . . . even though they state "up to 25 mph" . . . guess it depends on what the original motor's hp rating was on the core motor you send in . . . . |
