Default Would love some advice on new Cart

Bought a used cart off craigslist. Owner said it ran great when he bought it 5 years ago. Now the battery level gauge reads 1/2 after charge, and it goes about 12' before it stops. I know it needs new batteries, but what else should I consider at this point to get good torque and good distance?

It is a 1997 DS - According to the serial number
It has:
36v stock motor - looks like it
rebuilt 1204-410 controller
6 6v batteries
Lester Electrical OBC???? and matching 36v charger
Lift with 24x8x12 Tires
Curtis 900g battery fuel gauge

Is it a good idea to go 48v at this point?
Thanks for all the help, this is my first electric cart. I did a v-twin swap in my last one, super fun!
