Default Towed in run, now dead

My 48v Presidential Club Car was towed over a mile while the switch was still in run position. Upon arrival a brake or possible electrical smell was evident. With new 12v batteries replaced cart won't run in either forward or reverse, solenode makes a clicking sound only. Any ideas?

Any quick tests to verify controller and or motor are bad?

To test run a Sep-Ex (regen) motor (with wheels off of ground, of course, and in TOW mode)

Remove all cables from the motor; connect a jumper from A1 to F1 and a jumper from A2 to F2. Connect 12 to 24 volts, positive @ A1/F1 and negative @ A2/F2. Swap F1 and F2 to change rotation direction.

DO NOT RUN MOTOR longer than it takes to see if it will spin tires to prevent damaging motor . . .

I had something similar happen to my 2004 Club Car DS. It was pushed up a big hill just after it stopped running. Pushed while in run for about a half a mile. I was getting just a inch of movement in forward and reverse (like it wanted to move but would not) This was an original 12 year old motor shorting out for me. Not sure that helps, but may get you started.
