Default Pro Fill watering system question

I have a single point battery watering system on my 48v Club Car. I do not like it because it overfills some of the cells and you always have to wonder is it actually working. Would it be ok to yank the hoses off of it and just continue to use the caps as they are? I will leave the manifold that joins the groups of 3 caps together and manually take them on and off to add water. I would just buy new caps but I am having no luck finding them or either they are over way over priced.
