12 volts on a 48v cart?
I also noticed that my new cart's 12v lights are wired to one 8v battery. Not sure why, but is there a way to get 12v from 6 -8v batteries?
Confused.... M |

Re: 12 volts on a 48v cart?
The best way is with a 48 > 12v reducer. Reducers take the draw from the whole pack evenly and deliver 13v to your accessories. Drawing off of one or 2 batteries in the pack for accessories will create an imbalance which will hurt some batteries in the recharge cycle.
It's tempting to just grab 12v off of 2 6v batteries for instance, but when you go to recharge those 2 need more charging than the rest of the pack. The charger only sees the total voltage of the pack and not individual battery readings. Consequentially, when the 2 low ones are taking longer to recharge the 4 higher ones are going sky high - eventually the charger 'sees' the total pack voltage it's looking for and it shuts off. What you have just done is super charge 4 and 2 are not so fully recharged... keep doing this over and over and you can imagine the damage it causes both the 2 low ones and 4 over charged ones. I hope this helps And CU carries a 30a 36 or 48v to 12v DC>DC reducer for near cost to BGW members. visit our website. |

Re: 12 volts on a 48v cart?
you can not get 12 volts out of your cart with 8 volt batteries, you will need a converter like Scotty said

I do not trust voltage converters on the battery pack go with a separate
12 volt battery , put it in the bag well |

Re: 12 volts on a 48v cart?
OK - technically you guys are right - you can't get 12v without tapping a battery (bad idea) - but since I only have lights (and will never have winches or tunes or whatever), I did the Xmas tree solution to draw from the full pack - see HERE. Goofy maybe....OK....goofy yes; but no extra hardware and its worked for years and years (will only work for lights though).
