Charging the batteries

I have a 48v 2003 DS club car. Simple question here. Do I plugin the Powerdrive 2 into the wall or the cart 1st????

Thanks,

M

Wall first - some cart barns at golf courses never unplug the chargers - they are roof mounted and the cart cable hangs down.

Makes sense. I know you guys think it was a stupid question. I read somewhere that sometimes you should plug into vehicle first to avoid sparks near batteries. Also some chargers take a reading from just batteries before applying charge.

Thanks,

M

Actually CC 48v chargers (in combination with the OBC in the cart) do read the batteries. With my older Powerdrive - if the cart has been driven; the charger comes on - drops out - then re-starts the charge in accordance with whatever the OBC is telling it.

InVision, you make a good point, folks should never take answers from these posts and assume it was a generic answer.
Specifically to your setup, the OBC turns the charger on and it measures the presence of "ripple voltage" to know the charger is actually working and that the OBC is in control of it.
When working with a charger that has a ON/OFF switch like most car chargers, you should plug to the battery first, as you mentioned, to avoid sparks.

Then you have carts like my 1986 CC DS that doesn't have an OBC.
