2006 Precedent Battery smell

I own a 2006 Club Car precedent with 2008 batteries. I am noticing a strong odor smelling like rotten eggs. I have not experienced this before.

Usually I plug in the charger and then leave overnight until it completely charges the battery and then shuts down.

This time the charger was still running even overnight. I assume the batteries need to be placed based on smell and the charger continuing to run. Is that correct?

Will replacing the batteries solve the problem or is there another issue?

Have you checked the water level in the batteries? I know as batteries get older they will out gas more Oder from my experience.

I checked water levels and they were a bit low but none of the plates were showing. I added water and plugged the charger back in.

At the moment, the charger's right in the middle at 7.5amps. It could be me but the sound coming out of the charger sure sounds different.

How long should I leave the charger connected before disconnecting? In the past it would just off by itself when completed.

If the transformer sounds like its working harder, you may have a shorted cell in one (or more) of your batteries. Give the charger a few hours to get below 5 amps then unplug and let your batteries sit for 12 hours. Then measure the voltage of each and post them. Big variances between batteries indicates a problem.

If the charger doesn't drop below 7.5A in a few hours, unplug it anyway and wait the 12 hours before taking readings.

Not sure what happened.

I added the water, plugged in the charger, and it went back to charging in the manner I am used to.

The smell seems to be gone also. Did adding the water resolve the issue? Not sure what happened.
