Club Car ds big electrical issues.

I have a club car ds 48 volt with the IQ system(the cart is completely stock and the governor kicks in around 17 mph) Well my friend and I were driving it and we hit a bump and the golf cart accelerated very quickly to way over when the governor kicks in usually, so I let off the throttle and then the carts regen feature turned on and stopped the cart, as if I flipped it into neutral at full speed. When we lifted the seat it smelt like burnt electronics and when he tried to see if it still worked it wouldn't move but the reverse buzzer came on. I'm wondering where I should start, and how?

So are you saying after you hit the bump, the regen didn't kick in? The speed sensor is there to protect the electronics when you hit the shifter while in motion...

Sorry for the slow response but I just have been busy. I ended up buying a new controller, but to answer your question, the "regen" function kicked in the second you let off the gas.

Yeah after I installed the controller today it worked great. Then the brushes in the motor went out after about 15 to 20 minutes of use. So is there anyway that I hooked the controller up wrong? Just so you know, everything worked great for about 15 minutes until the motor started making weird noises then it stopped and I towed it home with another golf cart. So is there anyway for the motor to work correctly in forward and reverse, but still be hooked up incorrectly?

That's why I questioned it........ The smell you were smelling was probably not the controller, but the motor. You need to unhook the battery pack from your cart ASAP. The motor has developed an internal short for whatever reason. Broken brush spring, broken winding, separated armature, or who knows what else, it could be anything. I've seen motors do this before. They'll run for a little while after you overheat them, but when you take them apart the brushes turn to dust. The point I'm trying to make is that the motor crapped out on you and shorted out the controller. If you keep running it you're gonna short out the new controller too.

Its all disconnected but i know the controller was dead because I tried it in another cart and it didn't work

Sounds like you need a new motor...

I do but right now I'm having trouble, because the armature is stuck to the input shaft. Does anyone have tips or tricks to getting it off? i go the case off, but not the armature.
