How do I test an iq controller and the motor
Can someone lead me in the direction of testing an iq motor controller and motor?

Re: How do I test an iq controller and the motor
I have a club car ds 48 volt with the IQ system(the cart is completely stock and the governor kicks in around 17 mph) Well my friend and I were driving it and we hit a bump and the golf cart accelerated very quickly to way over when the governor kicks in usually, so I let off the throttle and then the carts regen feature turned on and stopped the cart, as if I flipped it into neutral at full speed. When we lifted the seat it smelt like burnt electronics and when he tried to see if it still worked it wouldn't move but the reverse buzzer came on.

Just to be thorough - there is a motor test process (per Stevegrmich) as follows: Quote:

Re: How do I test an iq controller and the motor
If the cart "coasted" to stop instead of the sudden slow down from regen, here is another possible scneario:
When you hit the bump, the solenoid contacts bounced, which under load probably destroyed them. The cart them burned the pre-charge resistor which is what you smelled. You may need a new solenoid, pre-charge resistor and diode just in case. |

On an IQ cart if the solenoid drops out the controller goes into plug braking and that is not coasting it can through you through the windshield |

You still need the solenoid to complete the regen circuit, plug in break is just for series carts...

Regen's have pedal up to slow you down and plug to hold you from rolling one is with solenoid on the other with solenoid off. Ok we will call it walkaway braking not plug Here is a section out of a 1266 manual where curtis refers to plug braking in a sepex controller Current Limit Parameters .................................................. .21 Main Current Limit: M1, M2 Regen Current Limit Plug Braking Current Limit WalkAway™ Current Limit |

Re: How do I test an iq controller and the motor
It didn't coast to a stop though, I let off the gas and the regen brake kicked in and when I hit the gas again it accelerated to way over where the governor kick in usually then when I let off the second time the regen kicked in as if I turned it off while at top speed. Then it never worked again. I don't think it's the solenoid because that wouldn't cause the cart to not govern itself anymore
